USB Superdrive issue:

Macbook Air latest generation + Apple USB Superdrive. DVD imports to desktop but won't play. Same DVD will play without problems on desktop Mac. Is this a settings problem or a hardware problem? My goal is ultimately to stream the DVD through Apple TV to my TV.
