Lightning Strike

A recent lightning strike took out the cable company's modem, my Airport Extreme and I think my ethernet port in my iMac. I can only connect thru wi-fi now. The wi-fi initial connection is really slow, like 3 minutes. Once connected it runs good.

1) Any ideas on how to verify that the port is burnt out?

2) What could be causing the wi fi connection to be so slow in initially connecting?

Thanks for any assistance.

In that case try disconnecting power to the modem, router, and computer. Wait one minute. Connect in order:

  1. Modem and wait for status lights to show it is connecting to the ISP.
  2. Router and wait for status lights to show communication with Modem.
  3. Computer and check the Network preferences setup to be sure it's right. Move the Wi-Fi port to the top of the list.
