iMac G4 won't recognize blank DVD-R, however CD-R works fine.
Problem: My iMac G4 (10.5.8) won't recognize a blank DVD-R disk, however a CD-R disk is recognized and copies images just fine. A solution would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know if the optical drive is able to handle DVDs? Many models of that age did not originally come with SuperDrives. Open Apple System Profiler in your Utilities folder. Click on the appropriate section of the topmost device listing and see what the drive supports.
The topmost listed is ATA Device. Below that is "Pioneer DVD--R-W. DVR-106D
Then doesn't seem a problem with the drive unless it is out of alignment or has a r/w head problem. Do you have another boot device you can use to test if the drive works using a different OS X boot system?
