ipad, mail, and gmail

I used to be able to download my gmail using apple's mail program on my ipad. That stopped yesterday. The only way for me to get my gmail was to download the google app and then check my gmail there. How do I get mail to download gmail? All the settings that worked last Monday haven't changed.

I assume that you simply mean that your mail doesn't appear in the mail app and that you are seeing the spinning wheel with no results at all. However, I would be curious to hear exactly what happens.

Close the mail app and reset your iPad.

In order to close the mail app. you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Well, I opened the Mail app Apple has provided and the wheel spins and downloads email from all my email accounts except gmail. I can access gmail from my MacBook pro. The message pops up and it says, "The mail server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account information in mail settings.

Well, I did verify it was correct. I tried again and no difference, so, deleted the gmail account and tried again and got the same not responding message.

Finally, I did the reset holding down the buttons and now it is working just fine with gmail! Thanks.
