iPhoto Upgrader not working??

What format is the MyPassport drive? For the iPhoto library to work correctly it must be on a drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)

As a Test:

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Post back with the result.

How big is the library as determined by the Finder? Is it big enough to contain your image files? If so give this a go:

1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.

2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

so I'm having the exact same problem as the original poster (backup on a WD drive etc). But in my version of iPhoto (9.5.1) the option (or option-command) trick doesn't even work - I don't get the popup menu at all. so I'm not sure how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What do you get when you try?

Make sure you're holding down both of those keys before you launch iPhoto and continue to hold them down until the First Aid window appears.

And to get the first aid window you must "Hold down" the option and command keys until the first aid window appears -- but until you verify the format you may be wasting your tie doing anything since unless the drive is correctly formatted nothing is going to work

Aha. You are correct. I am able to get the 'repair' window when I hold it down for long enough. Thanks !

But I'm still not sure what to do about the original problem of the upgrader not actually upgrading the database.

That is your problem -- at least part of it - maybe all of it

aha. That makes sense. the question then is, is there a way to fix the problem ? I could always extract all the pictures manually and import them, but i'd like to preserve the indexing and folder structure
