My macbook pro has been running fairly hot so i looked at the fan control thing and it says my left fan is running at 0rpm and that my right fan is running at -1 rpm and my base speed is at 1,200 rpms and the lower threshold is at 49 degrees and the upper threshold is at 79 degrees. Now i figure the fan not running is not a good thing so i thought i would ask if it is and how to keep my laptop cooler.
Firstly what app are you using? Then try manually controlling your fans, do your fans work?
The app is under other in the system preferences. Im not sure if the fans are turning on at all. Ive never had my computer get hot enough to shut off but it runs games and youtube videos pretty slow. The fan control thing doesn't let me control the fans but i can adjust the base speed and the lower and upper threshold.
In system preferences? Please elaborate where exactly.
i clicked the apple button at the top and went to system preferences and its under other next to flash player and java. I didn't download it myself it was already there.

And what is this app called exactly?
What exact model MBP do you have?
Both fans should be always running.

Its on the bottom on the left and its just called fan control. i have a model a1278 and i will run the test here soon, i don't have time at the moment, and i will get back to you guys with that.
That's weird, I don't have anything like that installed on mine.
An A 1278 MBP can be a 13" model from early 2009 to 2012. Can you narrow that down. Model Identifier number would help.
