iphone 5s restore requires passcode?

So I have an iPhone 5s and I forgot my passcode.

I went to restore it on itunes and It told me to put my passcode in first, so I looked up how to reset it without knowing my passcode.

I tried to do a hard reset from DFU/Recovery mode and I was able to successfully do a reset(i think) only one time(but my background is still the same????) but it still asks for my passcode? I don't know what to do. and now when i try to put the iphone into recovery mode the computer doesnt even recognize it and i looked up how to make it recognize it and it said to update my mobile device drivers. so i went to update my mobile device drivers and it says i cant. im lost. should i just take it to the apple store?
