Spinning pinwheel constantly coming up

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and I am constantly getting a spinning pinwheel after updating my Mavericks. I notice I get it more when I'm using my internet browser (Firefox) and I get it when I use Safari too. My flash player is also crashing much more often - I've updated it and reinstalled Firefox and I still get the wheel.

Any help would be appreciated!
