I manually imported songs from a cd from under the file menu. They played ok however once I removed the CD it no longer could find the song? Why did it not fully import? Also why don't I get the dialog window when insert CD? Real Player activates.
You've created references in your library to the tracks on the CD rather than ripping copies into your library. Delete them and try again.

I'd guess from your description that you have a CD of song files, not an audio CD. If that is the case, do as follows:
