iPhone 4 stuck on charge screen with broken lock button

My little sisters iPhone 4 is frozen on the black charging screen. Her lock button is broken, and when I try to put it on the charger nothing happens, and iTunes does not recognize the phone. Is there a way to fix this problem without sending her phone in? Is there a different way to try and reset the phone without the lock button?
