new DRAM not recognised?

Hi there. I have a Macbook 2008 and I have just installed a 4GB memory kit from crucial.com. However, in 'About this mac', the memory is still described as 2GB. Have I not installed correctly? I followed the instructions to the letter.

Any ideas?

Incorrect fitting is the most likely cause, so take both chips out. Insert a chip in the lower slot only, turn the machine on and check that 2GB is displayed. Turn it off and put the other chip in the top slot, check whether 4GB is displayed
