What shows on the storage bar at the bottom of the Music tab in iTunes - do the amounts taken up by music, videos, apps, photos etc roughly agree with what is shown in Settings > General > Usage, and the 'free' on that bar is similar to the amount shown in Settings > General > About > Available.

If you are stuck on that screen (if you change the music sync selection you should get a Revert button at the bottom right of the Music tab, but that doesn't seem to do much on my iTunes, it still shows as being over capacity if I click it to go back to my original selection instead of sync all music) then eject the iPad via the left-hand sidebar if you have it enabled :

Or via the top left of the screen if you don't have the sidebar enabled :

And then reconnect it and retry

Hi King_Penguin

Thanks for your answer but sorry, no progression.

You write: What shows on the storage bar at the bottom of the Music tab in iTunes - do the amounts taken up by music, videos, apps, photos etc roughly agree with what is shown in Settings > General > Usage, and the 'free' on that bar is similar to the amount shown in Settings > General > About > Available.

but the difference between the amount of over capacity on the storage bar and the amount shown in Settings > General > About > Available. is too big to be just some difference or just a minor discrapancy. I am sure there is some reason for it but I can't find the reason.

I really need help!

HI King_Penguin

Are you serious???? I just wanted to sinc one album (16 songs).

I did find a partial solution but it is awkward and presented new questions. I erased all the films on mi Ipad, from the film and from the home video seections, then uploaded the most important films, so i had some room for thr music album, but I noticed a very strange phenomenon: though I uploaded 50 videos and films, (I counted them...) in the itunes it said I have uploaded 70 films. and naturally it needed more space then really it should need. (But I could upload the music album i wanted to upload in the first place). AND it is once more overcapacity. i think the over capacity is because of the 20 films it says I have though I did'nt upload them and don't see them.

Do you understand what is going on there?????

How to Remove “Other” Data from iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

http://www.igeeksblog.com/how-to-remove-other-data-from-iphone/

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.
