Jul 14, 2014 8:21 AM in response to Apple4Ever556by babowa,Byron,
I missed some of the other stuff other people pointed out (especially Genieo - bad stuff!) - you really don't need all those things, especially at startup. Everything you add will need some of the resources of the system to run and make it go slower. A computer only has so much power all in all, the more stuff you add, the slower it can go. And remember, yours is a 2009, so it's not the latest/fastest processor. That doesn't mean that it won't last, but you need to be a little careful with how much you throw at it - remember I told you a long time ago that you were installing too many things? Well, I think it's time to do a little spring cleaning, ok?
Now, both the clean my mac and genieo are not good - they mess with the system and tend to cause more harm than good. Those two need to go for sure - be very careful and read every link that we posted and follow the directions because those two are a little difficult to get rid of. The rest of the stuff - it'll be your decision, but most of it does not need to be a startup item - you can start it when you need it.
If you do all that, your computer should be fine and it'll help get rid of the freezing issues. If you encounter a problem uninstalling those two bad ones or don't understand the instructions, post back, ok? You can do this!

You can read about it here, but it's adware you accidentally installed, probably when you downloaded something else form C|Net's download.com or Softonics. During installation of the other software you missed the announcement that you would also install Genieo unless you unchecked the box. Read all installation dialogs going forward.
To get rid of it along with any other currently known adware you may have download and run the Adware Removal Tool.

Jul 14, 2014 6:12 PM in response to Apple4Ever556by MichelPM,You completely misunderstood what Allan Jones stated about removing User Login Items.
You didn't, necessarily, have to uninstall these apps, you just needed these apps to stop launching and running in the background at your Mac's startup/login.
SInce you went ahead and uninstalled these apps, you still have left over commands to launch these now, non-existent apps from your User Login items list.
All Allan Jones wanted you to do was to eliminate these apps from launching at startup.
Here is how this is done.
Add or remove automatic items
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
- Select your user account, then click Login Items.
- Do one of the following:
- Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
- Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete below the list on the right.

Jul 14, 2014 6:21 PM in response to Apple4Ever556by MadMacs0,The only way to properly remove software downloaded from outside of the AppStore is to check the developers site for instructions. If all you do is trash the application itself, you will usually leave many files behind, some of which will continue to run processes in the background that can slow down your Mac. Developers often provide you with an uninstaller app or script or at least written instructions on where to check for these additional files.
To remove apps obtained from the AppStore, follow these instructions from Apple:
Uninstall apps
- To uninstall apps you purchased from the Mac App Store, hold down an app’s icon in Launchpad until all the icons begin to jiggle. Click an app’s delete button to uninstall the app.If an icon doesn’t have a delete button, that app can’t be uninstalled. For example, apps that come with OS X can’t be uninstalled.
- To uninstall other apps, drag the app to the Trash (the Trash is located at the end of the Dock), and then choose Finder > Empty Trash. If you change your mind, before emptying the Trash, select the app in the Trash, and then choose File > Put Back.
- Warning: When you empty the Trash, the app is permanently removed from your computer. If you have any files that you created with the app, you may not be able to open them.

- There is no reason to have GateKeeper disabled. If you find the need to open an app that isn't from the AppStore and isn't signed, then simply right-click / control click on the app and select Open from the popup menu. That way you will think about whether or not it's from a trusted site so you won't accidentally install Genieo Adware next time. Just make sure you use the developers web site or a reputable download site like MacUpdate. The installers at Softonic and C|Net's download.com often include unwanted add-ons.
- The failed launch agent needs to be fixed somehow as it will impacts several apps including Safari and Mail.
- I hope you are using some sort of backup strategy as your hard drive will fail, usually around the three year point, so your's may be ready to fail at any time. Anything you can't live without needs to be frequently backed up, probably by two or three different means. Time Machine is an easy way to do this, but there are several other ways.

Jul 14, 2014 6:54 PM in response to Apple4Ever556by babowa,Byron,
sorry I just got back - please follow MichelPM's and MadMacs' comments/suggestions.
As I said before, you have way too much stuff installed. And, never download anything from Softonic or CNet. Some of the software from there contains things you do NOT want - that is probably how you got the Genieo and maybe clean my mac.
And, you should have Gatekeeper enabled - that is a security check and will stop you from downloading things that may be bad for your system.
What exactly do you have on your G drive right now? Did you ever set it up to do backups or are you just dragging things over? MadMacs is right: hard drives will fail and yours is 5 years old right now. But, at the moment, that is not the problem - the problem is a messed up system, so that needs to be cleaned out.
Additionally, I'd get rid of - please check their websites to find uninstall instructions:
