itunes will not back up my iphone 4s

I'm trying to back up my iphone 4s to my computer via iTunes. It starts and gets stuck at step 2 of 4 " Syncing Cams Iphone" backing up. I have left it overnight and is still at the same point! Any ideas? It backs up to icloud, however I don't have enough storage and need to back up to the computer.
