What Mac, with what version of OS X?
I use CleanMyMac2. It's supposed to delete everything associated with a given application. I got it in the App Store. Good luck.

CleanMyMac2 has a terrible reputation on here for occasionally mucking up the smooth operation of otherwise healthy Macs. It seems that it can sometimes be too enthusiastic when doing it's 'cleaning' and delete essential system files and in the worst cases rendering the Mac unbootable.
@man2r: I would recommend you DON'T install CleanMyMac2. VLC is a simple drag and drop to the Applications folder installer. To remove it drag it from Applications to the Trash and empty the Trash. It may leave behind some small and insignificant .plist files, but they'll take up hardly any room and can safely be forgotten about.
I have good results with iTrash and it is cheap.
Removing an application from LaunchPad doesn't delete it unless it came from the App Store. VLC is a self-contained application, so all you have to do is quit it, drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash, and empty. The small settings files will remain, but that's of no consequence. Never use "utilities" such as the "CleanMyMac" scam to remove software.

No you didn't.
Prove it.
It is not fo rsale on App Store, that is so simple.
MacPro
OS X 10.9.3
Un-install using the developer’s instructions to make sure you remove all parts of the application. Some people recommend not installing an application unless you know how to remove it.
Linc, before I install Yosemite I wanted to finally delete my old Opera browser. Is dragging it from the App Folder to trash sufficient for this as well?
Also, what about AppCleaner; do you recommend against that too?
Thanks,
Bart
You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved, less people are likely to look at it. You can link to this one.
Do a backup.
If you want to use AppCleaner, just make sure you carefully check the files it proposes to delete. They should all be related to Opera.
Thanks, Eric.
Do you agree with Linc that getting rid of all the peripheral Opera files is not necessary?
My iMac is about 4.5 years old and being an ex-Windows user, I am wary of leaving too much junk around.
When a new version of OS X is installed, does it reorganize the HD?
Thanks,
Bart
