Cannot watch an iTunes movie downloaded to my iPad on my Samsung TV using an Apple HDMI adapter

I purchased and downloaded a movie with my iPad in iTunes but cannot watch it on my Samsung Smart TV using an HDMI adapter. It claims that the 'content is protected'. No wifi:-( Any help would be greatly appreciated.
