Installed the maverick upgrade on my MacBook Pro night before last. When it restarted, the screen goes to black. Mouse shows. Reset PRAM, reinstalled using command R twice. Ran disk permissions. Still no progress. Everything was fine before the software upgrade. How do I get it back!?!
Do you have a backup?
Just as a last resort, try -> Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).
I don't know of any reason why a Mavericks installation would cause the sort of problem that you describe. And I certainly don't know if resetting the SMC will fix that problem. But it's worth a try...

Did that! Did not help. I have seen similar posts but have not seen a solution.

I'm afraid that the only thing that I can recommend at this time is a visit to your local Apple Store or AASP (make an appointment first).
I've no idea why installing Mavericks should present the problem that you're having - maybe the Apple techs can find the cure. It may be that you've had a hardware failure that's independent of the Mavericks installation? Let the techs figure it out.

There was a post that an apple tech reset something in the code. I cannot find that post. I know that there are issues with Maverick posted on several threads. I just need to know what keys to push!!!
You may want to post in the Mavericks forum -> OS X Mavericks. If it's a Mavericks problem, it's certain to have been addressed there.

I am following another thread with a similar issue. Have you tried Command-S or Command-V during power-up? If Command-R shows recovery and it reinstalls successfully, it sounds like a driver issue.
What exact model of MBP do you have?
I did C-V and the back screen scrolled through then went to the grey screen with the apple then to black.The C-S takes me to the root screen. I don't know what to look for.
