How do I save photos from SD card to iPhoto on External Hard Drive

Because my Internal Hard Drive is Full, I've copied iPhoto content to 2 External Hard Drives.

1) How do I upload photos from my SD camera card to iPhoto on my External Hard Drive?

2) How do I back up one External Hard Drive with another identical External Hard Drive? (is there a way to do it without purchasing additional products?)

Thank you.

1) The same way you've always done it (ie, connect your camera with the SD card to your Mac). It does not matter where the iPhoto Library is located. Just remember to have the external drive powered up before you launch iPhoto.

2) You can clone your drive and then update your backups using a (paid) utility such as Carbon Copy Cloner.

You can backup to a (paid) cloud storage service. Or...

You can use the Time Machine app that came for free with your Mac. You can set it up in System Preferences.
