Loading songs on ipod from file server

Ok I need some help. I have a mac mini that i am using as a file server. The idea is that i put my music on there and share the library with the apple products in my house. My question is being that i dont use the mac mini for anything but a file server. Is there a way for me to share the library with my macbook plug my ipod into the macbook and load music from the mac mini through the macbook onto the ipod. Or do i have directly connect the the ipod to the mac mini. Thanks.
