when i restore my iPhone as new, how do i reload old text messages?

I a corrupt data on my memory. on the data bar in sync mode I have 24 GB of other. Post state to reload phone as new because the cache file is corrupt. If I reload phone as new this will fix this but how do I get my old text back with reloading a back up that also may have the corrupt file?
