Quicktime 7.7.5

I downloaded Quicktime 7.7.5 because I was frustrated with my RealPlayer. Now, I am so confused about Quicktime, I don't know if I've made a good choice or not. It would seem so simple to download videos (and was on RealPlayer) but I cannot figure out how to do this with Quicktime. For instance, I have a large library of blues music and instruction videos that I downloaded and they will play on Quicktime without a problem but downloading NEW videos has me baffled. In addition, in attempting to get help for this issue, I've found myself going in circles until I accidently (SMILE) clicked to this page.
