playing xvid but no audio

I resently up graded to the new version of quicktime
and now when i try to play xvid i just get audio.
Before the upgrade everything worked great, So i
thought maybe it was a codec problem so i reloaded
the xvid codec but for some reason it is still not
playing the audio. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

(1) To my knowledge, there is no Intel Mac version of XviD QuickTime component.

(2) QuickTime may not require you to install an additional component if you are just going to let it decode XviD video.

That's a preview version of XviD compressor, not a decompressor. As I said before, you don't need an additional QT component to decode XviD video in most cases. If your QT was able to decode XviD before, it probably didn't use that component in the first place.

I had similar problems with videos I have captured over the course of 5 years.
Some in windows, some in linux, and mac. My solution was Isquint.
I dropped avi,mpg,etc. Some of these files quicktime would not even play.
Isquint is really fast, and produces mp4,s that quicktime will play back.

One other thing you might try is to check for codecs that might be conflicting with quicktime. I had to remove 3ivx to get Itunes to play mpeg4 videos. HD/library/quictime. I removed all files in this folder and placed them in a new folder on the desktop. Launch Quicktime and load one of your problem xvid files. It may load without any xvid codec installed. If this works replace each file one by one relaunching quicktime until the problem resurfaces. I would start with xvid codec. Hope this helps.
