Why does my screen go black when I am taking a video with my back camera on my iPad air?

When I am taking a video with my iPad Air using the back camera, the screen goes black. sometimes it will record for several minutes before it goes black and sometimes it will go black right away. The front camera seems to work good. Can anyone help with this?
