Why do I receive the message "This item is temporarily unavailable" when I try to reinstall OS X Lion?
Hi ..
To reinstall v10.7 Lion, startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you can access the built in utilities to reinstall OS X (Lion) using OS X Recovery
If you were trying to reinstall Lion from the App Store, that won't work.
hi carolyn...
we are already past the point of the command and r keys. we are able to access the lion page and agree with the terms of use. then we click reinstall and it asks for our apple id so we entered it. unfortunately when i enter my correct apple id it tells me that this item is currently unavailable.
I am having the same issue. Trying to do a clean install to reassign an iMac; I followed the recommended instructions and wiped the drive, but now I try to reinstall the OS from the recovery partition and find that I can't. I get the "temporarily unavailable" message. It has been unavailable for over 24 hours now.
This happens to me today. Couldn't find a solution.
Same here - anybody any ideas? I have found this thread: Install O.S. .. where the solution is to go to the Apple Store. I would prefer somethign less complicated!
In my case, it was my recovery partition that was bad. I was able to do an internet recovery. It is a bit slower, but it got me taken care of.
Hi Carolyn,
I have the same problem with my Laptop. Followed all of the instructions to erase the drive, etc and then did the Command R boot - keep getting passed to the App Store and then get "temporarily unavailable" message. This is an endless loop and I cannot figure out how to reload OSX. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi there I am suffering the exact same problems, if anyones discovers a solution I would love to hear.
I have the same issue...did anyone find an answer?
Is the solution to download the new OS to an external hard drive and use that for the install? If so, can anyone give a quick walk through?
Cheers guys...it's driving me mad...
I am having the same issue with Mavericks....anyone sorted this issue out?!
I had this issue with a 2008 Macbook I purchased from my brother. After entering my apple ID that had been associated with this computer since I've had it, I was given the "temporarily unavailable" message. I then tried my brother's apple ID and password (he's the one that purchased lion) and wouldn't you know, it began to download.
