why cant I reset my system using Command -R ?

Hi , I have some errors on my HD, on looking up in disk utility , I have been asked to reboot the system using 'Command - R ' button. However , it doesnt reboot. what should I do next?

It's not clear from your question but it sounds like you may think that the Command-R key combination will do the restart. If so, be aware that you must initiate the restart as you normally would (e.g., if you are running OS X 10.9 Mavericks you can go to the Apple menu and use the Restart command). After you have initiated the restart, you then hold down the Command and R keys. More information: OS X: About OS X Recovery
