If you use DropBox, check there (and the DropBox settings)
If not, search for "Screen Shot" in Finder or Spotlight
Haven't yet installed dropbox on this mac, cannot find images in spotlight or in finder.
How are you taking the screenshots?
Shift-control-command-4
Hello
If you hold control down, image is put into clipboard.
command + shift + 4 => desktop
command + shift + control + 4 => clipboard

Ah the devil is in the details 😀
Adding the shift key to the command places the screen shot in the clipboard as Hiroto pointed out.
To get the file on the Desktop just remove the shift key.
Or as Mark Twain said
The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter -- 'tis the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.

- Default name for a screenshot using this technique starts with "Screen Shot 2014"
