new install with media files on external drive

Short version: I moved my media files to my G: drive, and had nothing but problems. Worked with very patient folks at support but finally ended up just deleting everything. I've gone through all the uninstall steps in order, restarted, cleared my temp directory, and restarted.

I am now ready to do a clean install, but I am a tad confused.

I want the iTunes application files to reside on my C: drive but all my movies/programs/songs to reside on my external (G:) drive.

From everything I've read, I should change the destination folder to G: when I reach that step in the install, but if I do that, won't my application/program files then be installed on G: as well?

Any clarification you can offer will be appreciated. It seems this isn't as simple as I thought it would be.
