Iphone 5 wont charge after software upgrade to 7.1.2

I upgraded my Iphone and my Ipad to the new software, they were both frozen for hours at 50% of the download had to do a master reset, after the update my Iphone nor my Ipad charge. I connect them and I get the " message device cannot support the cable". Basically I don't know what to do did apple mess up with the update ? how are they gooing to fix this problem ? my phone wont charge not even with the authentic charger. What next ?
