Parental Controls Not Allowing Access

Using Parentl Controls on my son's MAC, I added https://secure.nc.monkeyquest.com/membership as a trusted site. However, Safari is ignoring it.

Also, by checking the box that says I want to limit access to adult sites, even firefox is forcing me to enter my password for every single https website. This aren't **** sites for goodness sake, but well known children's websites. I don't have this problem with Internet Explorer on my PC.

I would like to let my kids visit these sites without having to come get me every 5 seconds to enter my password. I suppose I could just open up access to allow **** sites on their computer, but that's not an acceptable answer. What are other parents doing?

Apple deliberately blocks all secure websites if you have Parental Controls turned on. You don't have any option to change that unfortunately. It's their way of playing Big Brother. And conveniently (for Apple) prevents you from effectively using yahoo mail or gmail or installing and using Google Chrome since these refer back to a long list of secure IP addresses for web components.

They document this 'feature' of parental controls here: Mac OS X v10.5, 10.6: About the Parental Controls Internet content filter - Apple Support. Note that it is still true in 10.10.
