MacBook Pro mid 2010 model 15 inch keyboard issue

Hi everyone,my macbook pro mid 2010 model 15 inch wi MAC OS X 10.9.4 is giving me a whole lot of keyboard problems.Inbuilt keyboard doesn't work but external keyboards work.When i turn it on,it automatically starts up in firewire mode.Which i don't know why.when it gets to the entry of password,it automatically enters keys on its own...unless i clear them and enter my password..Lots of keys don't work in the OS but sometimes works with startup commands.i want to know if this is a hardware related problem or software.thank you guys

Does the Trackpad physically Click down when you press it?

If not, it could be that your battery is swelling and pressing up on the keyboard from below. If the Trackpad doesn’t have the physical click, that could be the problem.

Then I would doubt that it is the battery swelling, but it may still be a hardware problem with the keyboard. Given that an external keyboard works, it is likely a fault in the internal keyboard. Take it to Apple.

I just found one problem with the keyboard,When the caps lock is on(Green),the characters appear in small laters,but when its off(no lights),the characters i type appears as small letter.Could it still be hardware or software???

Which keyboard, internal or external? If an external keyboard works fine, it is hard to see how it could be a software problem.

I can’t see how it would be software if an external keyboard has no problems.

I can’t make heads nor tails of the discussion of the Caps Lock key. Have you installed any software that would affect the keyboard? I can’t imagine it would not also affect the external keyboard.

Remove everything from the external USB and other external buses, except that keyboard with its cable. Remove all external devices, external monitors, all hubs and all other cables.

Boot in Safe mode, and see if things work better while booted in that mode.

Then reboot normally, and — if the Safe-mode boot didn't resolve this misbehavior — load and run and post the output of Etrecheck here, and we'll see what add-on software is installed, and whether there might be anything suspect.
