problem with importing music from CD

so i have some new cd's for my birthday

i want to import them to itunes to sync to my ipod

but when i import them through itunes on any encoder it works strongly for about three or four songs then slows down untill basically nothing is happening

i just would like to know if there is a way to fix this though my itunes or if it is an issue with my cd drive.
