missing memory on my ipod touch 5th gen

My ipod touch (5th gen) has a memory of 32GB but on itunes it says it's capacity is 27GB. where did the 5GB go? how can i get it back?

The difference is due to the operating system taking up most of the difference, that is not available for use by the user. The other is how storage is reported and advertized

No, As I said the difference is taken up by the operating system (which you need) and of how GB is reported and advertized.
