Backup Disc Failure

Backup disc failure

I have a Desktop iMac and have been using a 320GB external hard disc for Time Machine backup.

I now get the message that the Time Machine needs 29GB but only 19MB are available. The usual request to “delete old backups” does not appear. How can the Time Machine function be restored?

Your Time Machine drive should be at least twice the capacity of the original. Otherwise it will keep on running into this problem. Turn off Time Machine from the System Preferences in the Apple menu. You can selectively remove and copy to another destination backups you don't want Time Machine to remove, and free up Time Machine of unnecessary clutter. Your hard drive should not be over 85% full.
