Garageband record enable button suddenly gone

I've been happily recording with the new Garageband.

Suddenly, the record enable button is not on my track headers, even though when I go to TRACK HEADER it asks me if I want to "hide record enable." There seems to be a blank space where the record enable SHOULD be - but no button to click. What am I missing?
