Help with exporting large Pages file to MS Word

I have finished writing a book in Pages that incorporates text and many photographs (jpegs) and have a file of around 260+MB and over 400 pages. It exports fine to pdf but when I export to a Word file it has a number of errors - photos on wrong pages; photos duplicated on same page and moving them in Word messes up the document. Need to be able to export to Word to send to publisher. Tried "locking" the document before export; doesn't help. My Pages version is 5.2 and I use Word 2008 for Mac.

Can anyone help?

Any version of Pages is not a Word clone, and Pages v5(.2) does its worst to reinforce this fact. If you want to send your publisher exact document layout, then you will need to use Office for Mac (Word) to create the document in its native format, and skip the Pages error-prone translation.

I really don't understand where the confusion arises over and over again.

The application is called Pages, not Word. It is Exporting, not Saving, to Word and this issue has been repeated ad nausea in these forums and many other websites.

If you wanted a Word document, use Word or a faithful clone like LibreOffice [free].
