Having trouble with Airplay on the Mac

I recently bought an Apple express and an Apple TV, and I'm having some trouble with the Airplay functionality.

When I connect my iOS device via either the Express or the TV, Airplay works just fine, quite good actually. When I try to get Airplay to work via my Mac, it has a lot of drop outs when I do it via the Apple TV, and when doing it via the Express video and audio is out of sync.

I'm on a 5GHz WiFi network, and all devices are connected via WiFi. I tried disconnecting all my Bluetooth devices, no luck there.

So basically I'm looking for ideas to help solve the problem, or even better, a solution.
