My charging cable has a lump on the end of it

Okay, so I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation. I have had a lump on the cable since a month after I got it. I got it in December 2013 and it has had a lump since January. I have not had ANY problems whatsoever until just yesterday. My iPod popped up a message while I was charging it: "Charging is not supported with this accessory." So I thought it was my wall charger. It is an Insten USB Wall Charger that came in a starter kit from Walmart. But I have a car charger from the same kit. So I inspected the charger and the cable with my dad. Well, my dad said he would take my wall charger to work. Then he saw the cable and said it was "broken" because it had a lump where you insert the cable into the iPod. Is it broken beyond repair, or can I fix it, with like Duct tape or something? I do not want to have to pay money to fix it unless it is necessary. I don't want to have to send it off for inspection or anything because I use my iPod every day. Thank you SOOO much in advance.

The cable is covered by the same 1-year warranty that covers the iPod.

If defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost

- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

The cable is not repairable. However, I would also

- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

Hey ChickenGirl1210, Not worth trying to fix! The wires are to small, even if you find the damaged wire(s) the other wires can also fail / break. Your cable has a short, get rid of it. Purchased Dec. 2013, if so and if the cable in question is an Apple cable you should be under warranty. Apple will replace for free if the cable is found to be defective and not damaged do to abusive use. Hope this helps. Cheers.
