mac book pro to television fullscreen resolution problem

i have a mac book pro and it is synced up to my television by a mini port hdmi to dvi adapter and it seem to be working fine accept when i enter an application in full screen. the resolution seems to be zoomed in i cant seem to fix it by simply changing the resolution. could some one please help me with this problem.
