can i return an ipad bought online to a retail store?

I bought an ipad online as I lost my other one. it was just returned to me and the new one hasn't even been opened. for some reason I feel a bit nervous sending something so expensive through the mail and just waiting for a refund. Am I able to go to the nearest apple retail store and return it there? any info is much appreciated.
