I know this is a re-occurring problem over the years but I wondered if there was any further advancement in a solution. I currently own a macbook air and i have a client who is unhelpfuly sending .snp files for me to view and utilise. I cannot find anything Mac wise that will open these files - can anyone help or is still not possible?

There is none. Have your client send in a different format (pdf would work fine) or install a copy of Windows and use Access (the creator of the file)
Many thanks Csound1 - I thought this might still be the case! Apparently my client has some software platform embedded in their organisation that produces these files! Do you happen to know if I bought Office for Mac if that would work or is it only full blown windows?

Windows only I am afraid, Access has never been ported anywhere else. You'll need Office Professional for Windows (not the cheaper versions) and Windows, neither of which are cheap I'm afraid. You'll also need to decide how to run it, in a VM (simpler, can be run at the same time as OS X, slower) or Boot Camp (faster, harder and riskier to install, runs individually)
I'd buy a cheap PC and run on that for these files.
Once again Csound1 thanks for the reply - looking at refurbished laptops with a Pro OS as we speak!
Once you do that I suggest using Microsoft RDC to operate it straight from the Mac keyboard, minimal change on your workflow that way. There are (or were) .snp file viewers available for Windows machines. If all you need to do is look at the files use one of them rather than forking out the money for Access.
