Q: iBooks pages NOT syncing!

iPad with wifi, iPhone 5. Fully updated (iOS 7.1.2) on both devices.

iBooks settings sync bookmarks and collections ON on both devices.

Collections (books and PDFs) are syncing fine on both devices.

Signed into the same Apple ID on both devices.

All books have been added through iTunes on both devices.

Numerous restarts, backups, soft resets, and option resets done on both devices.

Reading locations are NOT syncing on either device.

I have researched all over the net for an answer and have gotten nothing, or old outdated "answers", and I'm feeling frustrated.

Pages are NOT syncing device-to-device.  Not page NUMBERS, but locations in the book.

For example:

On Device A, I read Chapter 10 at 8am.

On Device B, I read Chapter 11 at 9am. I leave off at the first page of Chapter 12 at 10am.

I return to Device A to keep reading where I left off on Device B (first page of Chapter 12).

On Device A, it stays where I left off the last time I was on Device A (reading Chapter 10 at 8am).

Why are they not syncing?

Sometimes it'll turn to a different page, but it is NEVER where I left off reading on the other device.

I have never used bookmarks, and it is clear in all the literature everywhere, INCLUDING the Apple website, that a sync should be AUTOMATIC.....and that you do NOT need to use the bookmark.  Besides, other users have tried using the bookmark and that doesn't sync either.

Can someone please help? I am about to book an appt at my local Genius Bar, but don't want to have to travel if I can fix it at home.

iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 7.1.2

Reading locations are NOT syncing on either device.

    That's what bookmarks are for.

If you close a book and reopen it on the same device iBooks remembers the page, without bookmarking.

I have never used bookmarks, and it is clear in all the literature everywhere, INCLUDING the Apple website, that a sync should be AUTOMATIC.....and that you do NOT need to use the bookmark.

Please supply the link where this is stated.

    This is what I find:

highlights, notes and bookmarks sync across all your devices. Use these settings to synchronize these features:

    • On your Mac, open the iBooks app and select iBooks > Preferences > General. Then, select the option to "Sync bookmarks, highlights and collections across devices". This setting is on by default.
    • On your iOS device, open Settings > iBooks. Then, select the options to "Sync Bookmarks" and "Sync Collections".

I have the latest versions of iOS and MacOS. All apps are constantly updated to the latest available version.

I have noticed this annoyance as well.

I would read a book on my MBP and continue to read it on my iPad.

It appears that pages are not sync'd...

Because of this, I make sure to use bookmarks and memos...

    (Since Apple does sync these...)

Bookmarks was invented for real books.  There should not be a need for that for iBooks: the software knows where you left off...  Most of the times I just forget to put the bookmark, or I can get interrupted by a phone call and then move on to other things...
