Macintosh lc speakers very gritty

Hi there my macintosh lc now works and the speakers seem extremely gritty. On YouTube the boot chime sounds really clean compared to mine. Would it be worth getting a new set of performa 400 speakers to solder in?

Hi,

Have internal wires/connectors been checked (disconnected and reconnected)? Also, what about the speaker jack? The contact that breaks the circuit to the internal speaker when external headphones/speakers are connected may have become corroded. If so, try a small amount of an appropriate contact cleaner. Any change in sound quality when headphones or external speakers are in use?

In order to avoid any additional complication, try to connect just headphones or appropriate external speakers to this mono sound output jack. If you have access to another small speaker with the correct impedance, you may want to temporarily replace the existing internal speaker for a test. Bad (leaking/bulging/cracked) electrolytic capacitors could also in certain cases affect sound circuits.
