I was afraid that was the case. Do you know if I can partition the drive and then install a clean os on the 2nd
partition?

Jul 18, 2014 1:21 PM in response to Nielby LostAccount,ok Neil
Now … to dig up my old CD 300. Oh I hope I have a cable. If not, I don't have the original install floppies. Any ideas.
Sorry, it's a bit of a rabbit hole.
I do have an ethernet dongle on this machine so I can probably get away with it somehow.
Any further advice?

Jul 18, 2014 1:31 PM in response to LostAccountby Niel,★HelpfulThere are no free downloads available to install an OS onto that Mac. You need the original disks or a retail Mac OS 8 through 9.1 CD, and can use a different Mac's internal drive to perform the installation.

Jul 28, 2014 10:05 AM in response to Nielby LostAccount,Ok it turns out that I DO NOT have to do a clean install. Starting up from the original Mac OS 9.1 retail CD I can choose to optionally add or remove software. One of these is "Language Kits". A good reference can be found here: http://nisus.com/NisusWriter/Support/Tips/LanguageKitsOS9.php
