The one year warranty is based on the date of purchase regardless of where you purchased the iPhone.
However, you can purchase the extended warranty, (AppleCare) from Apple directly.

Frankly I would buy direct from one of the UK carriers (3 and EE no longer use CPW )
You can then either take to an Apple Store or online purchase AppleCare + up to 60 days from purchase date .
Or go to an Apple store ,they sell all the IK carriers contracts and you can buy AppleCare + on the spot
