iphoto slideshow will not play on dvd players

A month ago I made a slideshow in iPhoto and exported it to iTunes and then burned it to a dvd. It played fine on my and my daughters dvd players.

Yesterday I made another slideshow and exported it to iTunes to burn to a dvd. But the dvd will not play on the same dvd players as previously used.

Any ideas on this?

iTunes does not have the capability of burning a video DVD that can be played on a TV set via a set top DVD player.

Can I burn iTunes Store Videos to DVD?

You can save your iTunes Store movies to data DVDs for backup purposes (if you have a supported DVD burner), but these DVDs will not play in a DVD player.

The same applies for any movie file.

I don't know what you did last time but it didn't create a video DVD. You need a video DVD authoring program like iDVD to do that. The following is how to burn an iPhoto slideshow to a video DVD with iDVD:

Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar. For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Mediumor Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.

Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.

Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com. Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.

Why iLife 09 instead of 11?

If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.

Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

Insert the last DVD you burned into your Mac's Optical drive, open the DVD and take a screenshot of the contents. Post the screenshot in your reply.

That format will work. But use the 480p format as iDVD is only standard definition, 640 x 480 pixels.

Sorry OT but that doesn't work either.

Take a look below. I export the slideshow to iTunes or to a destination folder.

Open IDVD click on Create new Project, navigate to the folder where the file is and the file is greyed out. Same in iTunes

Previously I was able to export the slideshow in 1080, 720, or 480 format to a folder, burn it from that folder and play it on a set top DVD without using iDVD.

Something has changed and I have no idea what it is.User uploaded file

It wasn't like standard commercial DVD or what you burn with iDVD.

Those DVD players are capable of playing that type of video.

Some DVD players work with regular data DVDs that have JPEG, MP3, AAC and other file types.
