Unlocking 5c which became locked by inserting SIM card first time

I purchased a used iPhone 5c from ebay which was originally unlocked, but when the previous owner put a SIM card in it, the phone automatically became locked to that particular network. Now I`d like to use a different provider. Is it possible to unlock that sort of locking?

FActory unlocked phone wont just get locked by putting a sim card from a certain carrier. sad to say that is a lie from the seller. Even thos which had been illegally modified wont be lock not unless they restore it.

as to your question on unlocking the phone, apple does not unlock its own device. You need to contact the original carrier of the phone to unlock it. Ask your seller to do as it is registered in his name.

You are mistaken. There is no such thing as a "factory unlocked" iPhone. They are sold:

1). Locked to a carrier (subsidized price)

2) SIM free (which is NOT unlocked). They will be lock to the carrier whose SIM is first used to activate the phone. Some retailers (CarPhoneWarehouse in the UK is a god example) will sell these phones, and that causes confusion amongst consumers.

3). Unlocked. The ONLY place to get an unlocked phone is via Apple, either on-line or at a physical Apple store.
