Restore from backup
You can also check your iCloud photo stream in hopes of finding it there, but as the previous said, restore your iPad from a iCloud Backup. I hope you set up iCloud Backups and have them done regularly!

If you deleted photos from the Camera Roll album on the iPad they were moved to the Recently Deleted album. The Photos app will store them there for 30 days before they are permanently deleted. Use the Photos app, go to Albums and check the Recently Deleted album.
Very helpful, thank you.
Thanks Ralph, that worked great!
If there are iTunes or iCloud backups available, you can restore deleted text messages from the backup files via iTunes or iCloud as the steps show.
iTunes: Connect to iTunes > "File" > "Devices" > "Restore from backup.."
iCloud: Reset your iPhone first by "Settings" > "General" > "Reset" > "Erase All the Content and Settings". After that, choose "Restore from iCloud backup" when iPhone reboots.
If no luck, no backups. You might try directly restore lost data from iPad via iPhone Data Recovery. Better yet, It can also restore data from iTunes or iCloud backups with no need to erase your existing data. My wife has tried this method to get lost photos and videos back on her iPhone 6s. Hope it works for you as well.
