Life-proof case: possible to break the waterproof seal while cleaning?

Hi I have the Lifeproof Nuud case for the Iphone 5s currently on. I was outside in some very dusty, dirty conditions, and some of the dust collected around the outside edges of the screen. I used a toothpick to gently go around the sides of the case, slightly under the seal, and scrape out the dust. I was informed when I bought the case that breaking the seal, even if you re-apply it, could permanently leave the phone case water susceptible. I was wondering if anyone knew if that kind of cleaning could break the seal or not, so I know whether my phone is still waterproof. Thanks!
