Q: Can't find an Apple ID to use on iPod touch

My son has an ipod touch that we can't set up an valid and rememberable ID for. He has a very usual name, but every time we try a relevant ID name it's says it has already been used. Now I know there are billions of people on this planet, but unless there are 1000s of Jenson Lees with the same birthday who have taken all the possible variants and like rugby there must be something I'm doing wrong! I've got my other sons iPod work and again he has a unique name.

Please help. Its driving me mad!
