Can't Connect after changing from WEP to WPA

After changing Wifi security to WPA my iMac no longer connects to the internet after waking from sleep - either ethernet or Wifi! Resetting the router corrects this problem. Once reset, I have no further trouble until the next time the iMac sleeps! I never had to do this before with WEP. Verizon FiOs tells me it is a setting on the iMac - I can't find anything like that.

This is not a password problem - they've been changed. and I don't understand why this would fail with a direct enternet cable connection.

Are you using WPA or WPA 2? WPA is almost as useless as WEP for security and should not be used at all. If your router doesn't support WPA 2, it's obsolete and should be replaced.

It does have WPA2 and that was what I first tried. It did not work with anything peripheral - iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPhone 4 and other wifi devices - I couldn't get anything to work. So I downgraded to WPA and got everything to work except this problem with the iMac. Also , the iPhone4 seems to have some sort of wifi problem other than this.

If the router doesn't work with any of your devices, then either it needs a firmware update or you need another router. A router that you get from an ISP is likely to be junk. You should use the ISP's equipment in bridge mode, not as a router, and connect your own router to it.

It turned out to be my dLink router which I run in bridge mode. When I was changing the security setting on it I enabled DHCP - it should have been disabled, so now I'll go back and try WPA2 on everything.
